The Banned Books Museum collects and preserves banned, burned, and censored books from around the world. We have over 400 books from 100 different countries, and the collection is growing all the time.

We are a registered non-profit organisation in Tallinn, Estonia. As a social enterprise, we do not actively fundraise and instead generate income through commercial activities including book sales, merchandise, and tour groups. This model gives us the independence to prioritise any aspect of the collection we feel is most important, without influence from large institutions, and frees us from political influence.

Our museum offers tours for students and organisations, hosts talks and presentations, and conducts seminars for librarians, all with the focus on helping people understand literary censorship and how it works in the world today. We believe this topic is increasingly important, and that skills in recognising censorship and protecting authors’ rights are essential in creating a healthy society.
